Nebraska · SR-22

Nebraska SR-22: three years, but the start date depends.

Nebraska does not use one clock for every SR-22. Read the row that matches the letter on the table.

What an SR-22 is

An SR-22 is a filing. It proves you have at least the liability coverage Nebraska requires. Your licensed insurer files it. It is not a type of policy by itself.

Official clocks

Verified against Nebraska DMV SR-22 revocations and suspensions on 2026-09-28.

InsurEase does not file this. Your licensed carrier files. The state reinstates.

Who files, and how

Nebraska DMV does not accept fax or photocopies. The filing has to be electronic or an original.

Out-of-state filings have extra authorization rules. Use the DMV page for those steps. InsurEase is not the filing desk.

If the SR-22 is cancelled

If an insurer cancels the SR-22, Nebraska can suspend driving privileges. Reinstatement on that path includes financial responsibility for three years from the date you are eligible, and a $50.00 fee on the insurance-cancellation page.

Confirm the fee on your notice. The DMV page is the source, not this guide.

Frequently asked questions

Is an SR-22 a policy?

No. An SR-22 is a filing that proves you have the liability coverage Nebraska requires. Your licensed insurer files it. It is not a type of policy by itself.

How long is a Nebraska SR-22?

For point revocation, no-proof-of-insurance convictions, and court-ordered revocation, Nebraska DMV says three years. Accident suspensions and unsatisfied judgments require an SR-22 on the reinstatement date only. Do not treat every Nebraska case as three years.

Does the three-year clock always start at reinstatement?

No. For no proof of insurance after a court conviction, Nebraska starts the three years on the date the ticket was issued. Point revocation and court-ordered revocation start on the date you are eligible for reinstatement.

Does InsurEase file the SR-22?
